Brazilian Jiu Jitsu PROGRAMS
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art of wrestling an opponent to the ground, achieving a dominant position, and making the opponent submit using a joint lock or chokehold. The art allows a smaller, weaker person to defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant, using leverage, angle, technique, weight distribution, and an understanding of human anatomy, making Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a very effective self-defense modality. BJJ embedded itself in modern MMA as an essential component due to its effectiveness in the ring. Beyond that, the BJJ sport is a fantastic way to challenge your skills in competitions and tournaments if you want to keep your competitive fire alive. If jumping into a ring or competing isn’t your thing, don’t worry, BJJ is a fun way to keep your body moving, increase your physical fitness, work on your self-confidence, and practice problem solving, plus you get to be part of an amazing community too!

Here’s the outline of our classes:
warm-up
technique work
live drilling - position escapes
rolling (optional)
We start by warming up our bodies to prepare for the techniques we’re learning.
Each week has a theme we build on throughout the week, while the fundamental skills are practiced in every class.
After, we do live drilling where we work on escaping precarious positions and working on control and submissions.
We close class and open the mat for live rolling, which is open to people after their first few classes.
If you’re new, we connect with an experienced student to help guide your first few classes for an easeful transition.

Jiu-jitsu is a very individual process. Consistent training (three or more times a week) is key to developing skills and endurance.
For people just starting out, the first couple classes are challenging, as they try to figure out where to go and what to do, but within a few classes, the process gets clearer.
-
Nope, but jiu-jitsu will get you fit. Most people starting, regardless of their fitness level, find this new way of moving their body challenging. As you develop more skills and learn to regulate your breathing under pressure, your conditioning improves.
-
Definitely not. We have people of all ages training jiu-jitsu. It’s never too late to start your journey.
